FeelGooder Asks: What’s Your Favorite End-of-week Ritual?

We’re nearly at the end of the week, and I have a few Friday night plans. Most of us have a preferred way to unwind at the end of a long week, so I though I’d see how you like to celebrate Friday.

What’s your favorite end-of-week ritual?

My favorite way to finish the week is with a stiff drink and some good conversation.

Whether that’s conversation with friends in a bar, or a discussion with weekend visitors at home in front of the fire, it doesn’t matter. Nor are the topics of conversation that important—some days, I might ponder the world’s problems with a close friend; others I might shoot the breeze with someone I barely know. Recent conversational topics from my Friday night ritual have included:

  • outfits for a costume party
  • Japan
  • work, clients, and freelancing
  • What are you cooking for that special occasion Sunday?

That list really could go on, but you get the idea: anything goes. Really, all that’s required are those two ingredients: a drink and some talk. Whatever form it takes, I’m happy!

What makes you happy on a Friday night? How will you spend this Friday? And what’s your favorite Friday ritual? Share with us in the comments!

  1. For a couple of decades now my Friday night ritual has been the same – go and hang out with school aged kids to mentor and teach them life skills. Some weeks I can’t tell who has more fun – the leaders or the kids 🙂

  2. It’s sad to say but for me I am always business. I need to set up a fun routine again to get me out of my patterns.

  3. I used to spend Fridays going out with my husband on “date night,” which usually included sampling a new restaurant and then going out to a lounge ourselves or to meet up with friends.

A few years and a couple of kids later, my Fridays are spent in a more low-key fashion. I now reserve for Fridays what I don’t get to do much of during the week–meeting a girlfriend for dinner or coffee, reading more of that book I’ve been dying to get to all week or catching up on emails and Facebook. My Fridays are spent enjoying a couple of hours of “me” time. It’s a necessary and welcomed balance to the rest of my week.

    Great question!

  4. For years Friday-nights have been pizza night. Often pizza and a movie.

The event/tradition is a celebration in itself to start the weekend. Now even as I start watching the amount of simple carbs I ingest, pizza is still on the calendar for Friday nights.

  5. I try to take Friday as a calorie stacking day (nice way to say cheat from my Paleo eating). If possible it includes sushi and Sapporo.

  6. Deep thought! Thanks for contirbuitng.
