Another week has passed. Today, we want to know:
Who did you help this week? And how?
This week, I helped a friend of mine get motivated to get back into running. After an ankle injury, he was hesitant to go running again … until I told him this story about a friend of mine.
Recently, I went on a fundraising bike ride with some friends, one of whom is in the process of trying to lose weight through various lifestyle changes. After the 50km bike ride, I found that running became a lot easier for me. I’ve been running for ten years, but suddenly, I felt like superwoman! When I told my friend with the weight loss goals, he looked at me wryly, smiled, and said, “Well, obviously, you just weren’t pushing yourself hard enough.”
Touche. And too right. Who knew that a little extra effort could make such a big difference? Everyone but me, apparently.
When I told this story to my friend with the bad ankle, he laughed, but this week, he wrote to tell me it had inspired him to get out and go running—and he’d done 5km and felt great. This guy is pretty hard-core about the physical fitness, so I was ecstatic to think that I’d inspired him (through my laziness, no less!) to make the little extra effort that went a long way for him.
I don’t remember him saying he felt like superwoman, though.
It’s corny but true: helping people feels good! Who did you help this week, and how?
Great Georgina. I have helped no one yet this week, but you have inspired me. It sure does feel great; I have had many such instances in the past.
Jane.
i think i helped but did i truly help? Yes I did help my daughter get to work by looking after her baby all day – after all he is my gorgeous grandson.
i was hoping you could help me? Do you know how to make button links that others can share? I can make buttons but not sure where to learn about the html to make it available for others to put it on their site? I thought you might know as you mentioned button links in another of your posts on Problogger. Love your new site and problogger.
I helped my mom eat all her leftovers in the fridge…cough…er… I also cleaned up the kitchen- does that count?
I’d also like to think I helped raise some awareness about the situation of women in Afghanistan with my recent blog post.
I helped an elderly lady with her groceries at the store.
I helped someone who had run out of gas on the side of the road (brought them some gas)
Did a few other things too. The big secret? I think I actually enjoy doing these type of things and get more out of them than the people I am helping!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Lovely – I got an unexpected thank you from someone who said I helped them get “moving” out of a funk. Totally unexpected – who would have thought that a 140 character tweet could help?
I also helped myself – through a week of very difficult time regarding my teen son – somehow, I asked for guidance to do the right thing. And although I’m not sure if I’m doing it “right”, I’m confident I didn’t make things worse.
Thanks again ~ Kris
what is this The benefits are far reaching
Hi,
In the film Crocodile Dundee there is a scene in, I think New York city, where Dundee leans out of the car and greets a stranger. While greeting everyone in your village would be appreciated, in the towns and cities that would surely make people wonder. Well, maybe in the global village this is a great idea.
What’s up friends, its impressive paragraph regarding tutoringand entirely
defined, keep it up all the time.
