For those celebrating Christmas, it’s may seem a bit of a loaded question, but regardless of what you’re planning for the days ahead, we’re curious:
What’s going to make you feel good this weekend?
This weekend marks the proper start of my holidays. And I plan to spend a large portion of them here:
To me, Christmas means time off: time to relax, catch up with family and friends, and recharge the batteries. The hammock is the ideal place to take time out.
We live in the country, far from the burnished beaches that the Australian summer is supposedly all about, and the hammock reminds us of the great things we have right here on our doorstep. Also, there’s something decadent about luxuriating in the wilderness like this: it seems to fly in the face of—and let us appreciate—all the hard work we have to do through the year to keep the place livable.
But lying in the hammock on holiday really encapsulates the reasons we moved to the country: for the connection to the environment, to enjoy the space, and to have more time to relax. When I’m on holidays and in the hammock, all those dreams are fulfilled.
That’s me. But what’s going to make you feel good this weekend?
Spending time with my family (parents and grand-parents) and seeing their faces when I give them their presents, I think I’ve chosen some awesome stuff that they need.
That and sending all my friends an ‘IOU 1 Christmas Hug’ email/text so we can arrange a time to meet up in the new year.
Spending time with my young adult/adult kids and grandchildren on Christmas eve. They will be over all afternoon and then we will see some again on Saturday and some on Sunday!
Resting in a hammock sounds good also! I am sure I will get a nap or two in!
Merry Christmas!

The madness will finally be over. My kids are a bit older now and understand the value of the holidays. It’s just the crazies on the road, either shopping or driving drunk behind the wheel after endless parties. We reflect on the year and hopefully a new one will be a better one considering the recession like cloud over the world. Happy holidays to all. This is great little site and the new year will bring new ideas to share with all. Keep up the good work.
My holiday was spent earlier in the month, so now it’s time to refill the well, so to speak.
It is a bit cool for a hammock in Cali, but I’m hoping to curl up in a fluffy blanket and read. No phones, no computer, no other electronics. Just an old fashioned, hard copy book.
And yes, I’ll be nibbling on some yummy Bobs Red Mill coffee cake I made….
I will be internet free on Saturday and what I am looking forward to a day of eating, laughing, drinking and sharing my presence with those who are present. I normally need my personal space to recharge but that will be the cherry on the cake come Sunday.
A mixture of things, really. Reading Christmas stories to the kids, getting to play Santa when both kids will appreciate it (ages 3 and 5 – this will be so much fun!), watching them opening their presents and the excitement in their eyes when they see what they got from everyone… I think we will probably just do some chill out time, slow the pace down a bit, but also get out and do stuff too. I’d love to take a walk around the neighborhood, checking out the Christmas lights with the kids and my husband, who gets a 4 day weekend starting tomorrow.
Just giving myself permission to slow down and not feeling guilty about it will be all I need.
It is all about spending “time” with friends and family.
Time is the best gift of all… whether it is with kids, parents, or loved ones.
Also, unplugging from work for a few days. This means turning off the email. The text messages. And more.
I hope your time with the ones you care about is peaceful and fun.
I am a bit late on this one! But over the weekend the sun returned to Los Angeles, and I was able to enjoy some sun time and Christmas dinner on the balcony with my wife! You definitely can’t beat family time!
I гeally like it when folks come together and share thoughts.
Great weƅsite, continue the good worҝ!
