This week, while I was mucking around on Twitter with some friends, I reminded myself of something I’m good at. Well, I think I’m good at it. Anyway, it made me curious:
What are you good at?
I think I’m pretty good at compliments. I love to give compliments, and I really love to pass on to people compliments that others have said about them in their absence.
We’re often too shy to tell people the things we like about them—for fear that we’ll seem weird or creepy, or that they’ll take our comment the wrong way.
It’s true that you have to gauge your audience for compliments. But you should definitely give compliments. Why? Because complimenting someone in a genuine, meaningful way makes you feel good, and it makes them feel good. Woo!
This week, a friend tweeted a Facebook comment, complaining about its grammar:
“Your to gorgeous.”
I replied to him and after a little messing around, I made it into a pretty silly compliment:
“You’re to gorgeous what Einstein was to science.”
I know—stupid, huh? But when I wrote it, I imagined what it would feel like to have someone tell me that! Wow. Okay, it may be a little cryptic (my friend replied, “Haha, I didn’t get that at first.”) but still, in the right context, it could be quite the compliment.
Einstein. Science. Yeah!
So I’m not too shabby at creative-to-the-point-of-obfuscated compliments. What are you good at?
Well,
I am quite good at sports, specially in taekwondo and soccer.
I also like to paint, but maybe I am not as good.
I think I’m good at more things, but not the best…
I’m good at encouraging people. I am also a great baker! 🙂
I am good at writing (at least I think so 🙂 ) and working on computer for long time
I am good at organization and helping others to be organized. My tops closet ( the closet with only my tops) is acutally color coordinated and arranged by sleeve length….I know it’s corny, but I love organization!
I’m good at other things, but that stands out to me!

Hi Georgina,
I also like to give compliments to balance out the criticism that goes around. Some people think that when you give a compliment that you may want something from them.
I am good at telling others what they are good at.
Hey guys,
Thanks for the great comments 🙂 It’s interesting to see the diversity of things we feel we do well — it’s made me think about things I’d like to do better 😉
The very first line of your blog I thought, “Yes!” a man after my own heart! Well, close. I also really enjoy giving compliments! Especially when I can know those who thrive on words of encouragement! I feel as though I really contributed to making my world anyway…a more positive place! Thanks for sharing and inviting us to share!
I’m a talented songwriter. I’ve been able to hear full songs in my head since I was a kid and over the course of the last year I’ve finally committed to writing my own music.
I’m now in a band and structuring my life around the goal of being a full time musician. A lot of this lifestyle came with the prodding of blogs and publications such as this one.
I’m committed to living my life as happily as I can, and I know music will provide that! Thanks again for the great content!

Woo! Go Brennan 🙂 It’s hard to pursue your dreams, so congratulations on consciously making the decision to give it (as we say here in Australia) “a red-hot go.”
I’m good at writing.
I discovered something else I like about myself today: whilst cutting the grass, I decided not to mow over the part of the lawn that had a patch of clover and wildflowers on it. The rest of the lawn is now a perfectly-manicured gardenscape of green. Apart from that little patch of wildness.
I like that.
Brian, there’s something about that little patch of wildness that’s really touching, I’m glad you shared the story.
Love the touch of wildness and I love the color-coordinated tops closet! If I had a closet dedicated solely to tops…oh my.
I think I’m good at lightening situations with humor. I don’t (think) I take myself too seriously, at least most of the time.
I like giving compliments, too, but I’m not on par with the science/Einstein compliment. 🙂
